My name is Jenna

  • I'm a countrified shutterbug living in the Heart of the New West. My photographic interests are rooted in everything rural, from livestock to dilapidated barns and anything in between (especially Wrangler butts). Welcome to my photoblog!

My Arsenal

  • I currently use a Nikon D80 (DSLR) with a Nikkor 18-135mm zoom lens as my primary camera. When I'm feeling "old school", I play with my Asahi Pentax SP1000 or my Yashica FR II.

Purchase Prints

  • All photography viewable in my albums can be bought as unframed, unmatted, professional grade prints. See pricing, payment & shipping particulars here.

Photo Assignment V: Green.

Greenies_3

Green. It makes the world go 'round. It's especially true in my world, since Rook is addicted to Greenies. They cost as much as they are green (R.I.P. savings fund) but dear Lord in heaven help me if I ever run out of them; my unmentionables go missing, holes appear in my socks... so really, it is just less stressful to be broke over your dog's Greenies addiction than to go self-consciously commando or sockless like a hobo.

Jordan photographed a skid shack because he doesn't have a dog. The end.

A Couple Randoms.

Pocahontas was kind enough to document some of my silliness.

High River and McEwan (sp?) Ranch.

Jf00001

Pocahontas and I drove into High River to visit Hat Man and hopefully peek around his workshop with our cameras, although we couldn't find the saddlery and ended up lost. City-slicker lost. So really, tearfully lost. Sorry, Hat Man! We're ninnies and female.

By the way, the picture above is completely irrelevant to this entry.

After nearly an hour of aimless driving, Pocahontas stuck her [figurative] Executive Decisions Feather in her toque and drove us to McEwan (sp?) Ranch. We unexpectedly met up with Dave (one of the residents there) who kindly walked us through the property, so... thank you, Dave! I'm sorry we Pocahontas called you Doug. Sometimes she calls me Shacter. Do I look like a Shacter? [if necessary, refer to the picture above]

I suppose you want pictures now. Pfft... 'figures. Isn't it always about something for nothing these days?

Combing Archives.

Jf0072

Confined to my cozy digs due to bastardly cold weather, I decided to peruse & pick through the thousands of pictures I've taken from November up until now.

Jf0074

It's funny how a little time can change the way you feel about certain shots, ...

Jf0073

...pictures you'd originally tsk'ed at...

Jf0071

...but revisit later and think, "I can't believe I overlooked this one."

Jf0075

"Or this one."

Jf0076

"Feck - or this one!"

Jf0077

Because I really, really like this one.

Not Chicken.

Jf0068

Thank Goodness.

Apologies!

I realize you've been staring at white meat for a week. If this has caused you to suffer in any way, I am deeply sorry! I've been preoccupied with horse stuff. Things should return to normal shortly after Valentine's Day.

A Taste of What's to Come...

BGAWK! :P

Photo Assignment IV: A Slice of Routine.

Jf0066

This leash. It's what tethers me to the axis of my existence, my fur therapist, my constant companion, the glue of my routine, my quirky quadruped Rook. As his owner, my schedule is at the mercy of various doggie needs, particularly walks, and he receives three on a regular day, so make that "A Slab of Routine".

Shots from an outing with co-shutterbug Jordan are forthcoming, so stay tuned.

Barns, Installment I.

Jf0061

Barns. I love them, especially the weathered variety. Like this one. It has character, and that's a characteristic I can wholeheartedly appreciate.

Jf0062

Hello, dreamboat..!

Jf0059

It's an overload of rustic charm...

Jf0063

...from its broken windows...

Jf0060

...to its curling paint. Whoever knew disrepair could be so fetching?

Photo Assignment III: Cloudy.

Cloudy1

I'm not fond of obtrusive cloud cover, but from T's parents' porch in Ponoka this morning, my viewfinder was spoiled with an exceptionally pretty, cloud-strewn sky...

Cloudy2

...uninterrupted by the skyscrapers I so loathe...

Cloudy3

...or the gray-brown brume of polution that swathes them.

Cloudy4

Just the whimsical continuity of cotton candy soft clouds stretching across acres of peaceful prairie.
